Art professor featured in local gallery exhibit

Lampo Leong, assistant professor of Art at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will feature his latest painting, calligraphy and installation in a solo exhibit, Aspiration to the Sublime, at the Brady Gallery, 203 Brady Commons, MU campus.

Lampo LeongRegarded as one of the premier young artists of today, Leong, a graduate of the prestigious Guangzhou Fine Arts Institute in China, has had 42 solo exhibitions and more than 160 group shows worldwide. In addition to 18 artistic awards, Leong earned the honor of Lampo Leong Day, proclaimed by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown on November 19, 1999.

Leong’s artworks are in the collections of the Stanford University Museum of Art, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the St. Louis University Museum of Art, the Macao Museum of Art in Macao and the Guangzhou Museum of Art in China. He also served as judge for the San Francisco Art Commission, the Missouri State Fair Art Exhibition and the Best of America national juried exhibition.

The exhibit will run through Friday, Nov. 21. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
