The University of Missouri Board of Curators and acting UM System President Gordon Lamb named the 2007 Curators Professors at their October 5 meeting. Of the six professors named, two are from UM–Rolla, and four are from MU, and three of those are from Arts and Science.

Professor Kerby Miller, of the history department; Professor Sashi Satpathy, of physics and astronomy; and Professor Fred vom Saal, of biological sciences were named Curators Professors. Their five-year appointments will begin January 2008. The professorships include an annual stipend of $10,000 that is used partially to offset the cost of research or teaching activities.

Miller’s research area is modern Irish history, the Irish diaspora and the Irish in America, and U.S. urban and immigration history. Satpathy’s research area is condensed matter theory. Vom Saal’s area of concentration is the effects on fetal development of endogenous sex hormones.

"These professors exemplify everything we look for in a world-class professor. They’re excellent researchers and dedicated teachers," says Arts and Science Dean Michael J. O’Brien. "They bring the excitement that they see in research into their classrooms."
